An already depleted Dallas Cowboys defense took another loss when safety Jakar Hamilton was suspended for the first four games of the NFL season for violating the leagues substance abuse program.
Cornerback Orlando Scandrick was also suspended for the first four games of the season, earlier this month, as we previously reported.
This is the second time Hamilton has violated the NFL’s substance abuse policy. He could now face up to 10 unannounced drug tests per month, according to ESPN.
If Hamilton fails one more drug test over the next two seasons, he could be suspended for a year.
Hamilton has only played in one preseason game during training camp because of a concussion and a strained hamstring in the first two weeks. He will be put on the Cowboys reserve/suspended list when the Cowboys are required to trim down their roster to 53 players on Saturday, according to the Cowboys.
Hamilton was signed as an undrafted free agent last season. He appeared in three games for the Cowboys and made three tackles.
