Dallas Cowboys defensive end Anthony Spencer will be returned to the active roster from the physically unable to perform list.
Spencer was placed on the PUP list because he is returning from micro fracture surgery on his left knee, according to ESPN.
If Spencer stayed on the PUP list he would not have been able to return to the Cowboys active roster until week six.
Owner and general manager Jerry Jones told 105.3 The Fan, that even though Spencer will be on the active roster, he will not be playing in their week one game against the San Francisco 49ers on Sept. 7.
“He will be on our active 53-man roster. We wouldn’t be doing that if we weren’t planning on him being on the field immediately.”
Last season, Spencer on appeared in one game for the Cowboys because of his knee injury, according to Cowboys.
He re-signed with the Cowboys in the offseason to a one-year deal.
Spencer was a first round pick of the Cowboys in 2007. He has 363 combined tackles in 91 career games for the Cowboys.
