Debbie Reynolds, one of Hollywood’s remaining links to the Golden Age of cinema, will receive the 51st Lifetime Achievement award from the screen Actors Guild during next year’s ceremony. The star has been in the business for six decades and is also Carrie Fisher’s mother.
The actor’s guild made the announcement on Monday. She will receive the award on Jan. 25, 2015 during the 21st annual SAG Awards. The ceremony will be broadcast on TNT and TBS.
“She is a tremendously talented performer with a diverse body of screen and stage work, live performances and several hit records,” SAG-AFTRA president Ken Howard told The Hollywood Reporter. “Her generous spirit and unforgettable performances have entertained audiences across the globe, moving us all from laughter to tears and back again.”
Reynolds has appeared in over 50 movies since she made her film debut with 1950’s The Daughter of Rosie O’Grady. After securing an MGM contract, Reynolds went onto appear in Singin’ In The Rain and The Unsinkable Molly Brown, which earned her an Oscar nomination. She has also earned Emmy, Tony and Golden Globe nominations.
Her Emmy nominations are for The Debbie Reynolds Show in 1970 and for appearing on Will & Grace in 2000. Most recently, she was in Behind the Candelabra.
Reynolds is also a busy philanthropist, having established the Debbie Reynolds Studio for dancers. She is also the most famous movie memorabilia collector, although she has had to auction off many of her amazing collectibles in recent years.
