What do you do when you have an extra timeslot open and not sure what to do with it? If you are owned by Disney, you get to throw on a special about the most successful animated film in history, Frozen.
ABC said on Wednesday that it will air a special about the making of the movie, titled The Story of Frozen: Making a Disney Animated Classic. It is scheduled to air on Tuesday, Sept. 2 at 8 p.m. It was produced with Lincoln Square Productions and Walt Disney Animation Studios.
Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel, who voiced the main characters in the film, will be featured, along with other members of the cast and crew. The team will go over the process of turning a Hans Christian Andersen story into the two-time Oscar winning film.
Back in March, Frozen took home Oscars for Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Song for “Let It Go,” which is still stuck in our heads.
Of course, as with anything from the masters of corporate synergy at Disney, the special will also be an advertisement for future projects. Audiences will get a preview of Frozen characters making their debut on Once Upon A Time. There will also be a tease for Big Hero 6, the new Disney Animation Studios film and the first one based on a Marvel property.
Frozen is now the most successful animated film in history, grossing $1.27 billion worldwide.
