With the new live musical trend continuing with NBC’s Peter Pan starring Allison Williams, Jimmy Kimmel jumped on the bandwagon and had some fun with singer Ed Sheeran on Thursday.
Kimmel had Sheeran dress up as Annie, in an effort for ABC to “top” NBC in casting an actor to portray a member of the opposite sex. While Williams will play Peter Pan, Kimmel debuted Sheeran as Little Orphan Annie.
“Tonight I have the honor of announcing that my network, ABC, has decided to top them. On November 3rd, we will be having a live production of the musical Annie, and here tonight to give us a sneak preview, the actor who will be playing the lead role of little orphan Annie – Mr. Ed Sheeran!" Kimmel said as he introduced the singer, Rolling Stone reports.
Sheeran appeared onstage in Annie’s iconic red dress with white trim. The two share the same red hair color, but Sheeran’s tattoos and hairy legs were a bit more unconventional.
Just as he looked like he was going to belt out “Tomrorow,” he caved. “Jimmy, I can’t (expletive) do this. C’mon, Sandy,” he said before walking off the stage, USA Today reports.
