ESPN has suspended Max Kellerman after he revealed Monday on ESPN-LA to hitting his then-girlfriend Erin.

Kellerman wasn't on his own show, Max & MArvellus, when he spoke about the story, instead revealing it while on Mason & Ireland. He explained that he and his now-wife Erin were both drunk at a college party. After she slapped him, Kellerman admitted to slapping her back.

The couple have since been happily married for 20 years, he added.
"Max Kellerman will return to ESPNLA Radio and SportsNation on Thursday," ESPN told The Hollywood Reporter in a statement.

According to the New York Daily News, sources note that part of the suspension over broaching the topic of Ray Rice, which the network apparently was keen on on-air hosts avoiding.

The suspension comes less than two weeks after the sports network also took First Take's Stephen A. Smith off the air for a week after he made inappropriate comments regarding the Rice domestic abuse news story.

Smith later apologized after using words like "provoked" where it made it sound like he was saying Rice's now-wife sparked the abuse she received from the star running back.

ESPN also suspended Dan Le Batard for two days over a billboard aimed at Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James.
