The Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum: this attraction puts you on an instant backwards time machine straight into 1773 for a historical and super unique opportunity to be right in some Tea Party action! This was by far ONE OF THE COOLEST THINGS MY FAMILY HAS EVER DONE! This attraction opened to the public on June 26, 2012 and offers us all the opportunity to embark on the adventure that took place on December 16, 1773. Our tour began in the “Meeting House” where Samuel Adams was conducting a speech protesting the tax on tea. We were each given cards with the name of the historical figure we would uniquely portray; my husband was asked to read a speaking part in the Meeting House and we were all taught the traditional crowd reactions. We then were invited to board the ship (there are two: the “Eleanor” and “Beaver”; they are constructing the “Dartmouth” in Gloucester, MA and my son was chosen as a guest to “throw the tea” overboard. We then toured the ship and learned what life was like aboard an 18th century ship. Once back on land, we entered the museum and viewed a unique show of holographs titled “The Experience: Act II –Griffin’s Wharf, The Day After” which brings to light how the morning after the Boston Tea Party was construed by both a “Tory” and a “Patriot”. Simply breathtaking was viewing the Robinson Half Tea Chest – one of the only two original tea chest still in existence from the original tea party in December 1773. You learn its entire story and how it came to call this wonderful exhibit home. Before exiting this room, portraits of King George III and Sam Adams come to life before your eyes and you are treated to what would have been their heated debate. Finally, an epic short film concludes our tour, recounting all the events which lead to the American Revolution and “the shot heard round the world”. My family simply loved this hour long treat from beginning to end. During the summer, these tours run every 15 minutes (every 30 in the Winter/Spring) and hours of operation are 10 am – 4 pm. For more information, ticket pricing and to purchase event tickets and passes please visit www.bostonteapartyship.com or call 866-466-4438. We are planning to return to Boston this December 16, 2014 for the events planned to celebrate the 241st Anniversary of the Boston Tea Party and Annual Reenactment.
