Fifth Harmony wins VMA for Artist to Watch with their music video for “Miss Movin’ On,” beating expected winner, “Stay With Me” singer Sam Smith.

Fifth Harmony, who performed their single “Bo$$” at the VMA preshow, was up against 5 Seconds of Summer (“She Looks So Perfect”), Charlie XCX (“Boom Clap”), Schoolboy Q (“Man of the Year”), and Smith for the coveted Artist to Watch Video Music Award.

Smith’s music career has skyrocketed over the past month with “Stay With Me” and “Latch,” making him the obvious choice for the MTV award, says NY Daily News. However, many fans were surprised to see Fifth Harmony take the award from Smith, making the up-and-coming girl group stand out in an industry dominated by boy bands.

What’s best about Fifth Harmony winning the award was their reaction, admitting they were genuinely surprised they were taking home the award.

“I’m literally up here shaking,” Ally said during their speech.

“And thank you so much to our fans, the Harmonizers,” Camila added. “You guys go above and beyond for us. You guys changed our lives!”

Fifth Harmony’s debut album, Reflection, which will include their current single, “Bo$$,” will be released on Nov. 17.
