With his NFL career behind him, former New York Giants running back David Wilson has decided to pursue his Olympic dream in the triple jump.

USA Today Sports noted that Wilson retired from the league earlier this month after doctors advised him that further play in the contact sport could aggravate a neck injury he sustained last season.

Now, the 23-year-old has his sights set on another dream.

“I’ll be going back to school to get my degree and training for the Olympics,” Wilson said. “That’s something I really want to aspire to do now. I was the national champion twice in high school … and was an All-American in college [at Virginia Tech].”

So while Wilson won’t be seen on the gridiron anymore, he could be representing the U.S. at the 2016 Games in Brazil.

The Virginia native said that he will train with his former college track coach, Charles Foster.

The Giants selected Wilson in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He played in all 16 games in 2012, but only five last year before he got injured. Pro-Football-Reference.com noted that he recorded five touchdowns in his short career.
