FX revealed on Tuesday that Guillermo del Toro's vampire series The Strain will be returning for a second season.
The del Toro and Carlton Cuse series will return in 2015 for a second season, Deadline reports. The renewal isn't too surprising as the Sunday drama has done well in the ratings for FX.
The Strain averages 11 million viewers overall each week, with multiplatform formats factored in, and 5.2 million in the advertiser-important 18-49 demographic. The premiere snagged 4.73 million viewers on live+same day ratings, but with DVR and on-demand numbers added, it ballooned to 12.7 million viewers, which marks the horror series with the best FX debut.
"We've never had any doubts about The Strain," John Landgraf, FX CEO, said. "Working with Guillermo del Toro, Carlton Cuse, and the brilliant cast led by Corey Stoll has been everything we had hoped it would be and more."
Landgraf previously indicated he would likely renew the series, along with other freshman drama Tyrant, which has not yet been granted a second season.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the current plan from del Toro and Cuse is for The Strain to be a three to five season series. While the first series will correspond to the first book in the trilogy, they have not yet decided how to adapt the other two novels.
