At this point, Game of Thrones fans should not be surprised if their favorite characters are killed. We’ve seen plenty of great characters killed on the show and readers of George R.R. Martin’s books should be desensitized by fictional deaths. So, it shouldn’t be a surprise that Martin said that there is more death around the corner.
During an event in London this week, Martin explained that more character deaths are necessary for his A Song of Ice and Fire plots. “I have a large number of important characters who I switch between to tell the entirety of the story, and that limits who I can kill,” Martin said at Freemason’s Hall, BuzzFeed reports.
Martin explained that he is now at a point in the books where he can bring back his “viewpoint” characters (the characters he uses to tell the story) and he can’t have too many “viewpoint” characters at once.
“The viewpoint characters are meeting up with each other and being in the same point at the same time,” Martin said. “Which gives me a lot more flexibility for killing people.”
Earlier this month, Martin said during an event in Edinburgh that some fans have figured out how A Song of Ice and Fire will end. If only those fans would let us know which characters are going to die so we don’t get too attached to them.
Martin still has two more books in the series to write and the HBO show is catching up soon. The sixth book, The Winds of Winter, still doesn’t have an official release date.
