Blood thirsty author George R.R. Martin has promised to kill off even more characters in his upcoming books for the A Song of Fire and Ice series that Game of Thrones is based off of.
“Valar morghulis” meaning “All men must die” is the catch phrase for Game of Thrones and author George R.R Martin clearly lives by these rules by constantly killing off characters.
Martin recently had a book discussion at London’s Freemason’s Hall and revealed that there is more killing to be done, according to MTV.
“The way my books are structured, everyone was together, then they all went their separate ways and the story deltas out like that,” he said, “and now it’s getting to the point where the story is beginning to delta back in, and the viewpoint characters are occasionally meeting up with each other now and being in the same point at the same time, which gives me a lot more flexibility for killing people.”
Any fan who has read the book series or watched Game of Thrones knows that Martin shows no mercy when it comes to killing off characters. Before the first season ended, main character Ned Stark, played by Sean Bean, was decapitated. And the Red Wedding? When a whole group of lead characters can be killed off in a few minutes, it is clear that Martin is not playing favorites.
But, as Martin said while discussing killing off characters, where would the fun in the series be if it was predictable?
“I could have written a story about a well-adjusted family. Ned Stark comes down to King’s Landing and takes over and solves all of their problems. Would that be as exciting?” Martin implored his audience, according to Fansided.
The answer is no. No it would not.
