Miley Cyrus surprised us at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, and this time it wasn’t because of twerking.
When it was announced that Cyrus had won the VMA for Video of the Year, the pop star encouraged a young man to step onto the stage in her place. Rather than pulling any attention-seeking antics, Cyrus chose to remain a class act and support the cause to minimize homeless youth in the US.
According to Gossip Cop, Jesse nervously got onstage and gave a lengthy speech detailing his own personal experience as a struggling young person with the help of funny man and television host Jimmy Fallon. Cyrus could be seen crying in the audience throughout the speech.

“I am accepting this award on behalf on the 1.6 million homeless youth in the United States, who are starving, lost and scared for their lives right now,” he said. “I know this because I’m one of these people.
“The music industry will make over $7 billion this year, and outside these doors, are 54,000 human beings who have no place to call home.”
Jesse wrapped up his speech by pleading people to go to Cyrus’ Facebook page for more information on how to contribute to the cause.
