Indiana Pacers star Paul George sustained a gruesome injury Friday night during a scrimmage game for the USA Olympics Basketball team.
According to CBSSports, George's right leg buckled after a hard landing when he fouled Houston Rockets player James Harden on a drive to the basket during the beginning seconds of the fourth quarter.
Players and audience members were left stunned.
Medics, U.S. coach Mike Krzyzewski and members of George's family who were in attendance immediately rushed to his side, ESPN reports.
George was stretchered out to a standing ovation from the crowd.
The injury is being compared to that of Louisville player, Kevin Ware, who famously broke his leg during the final stages of the NCAA tournament in 2013.
George has been considered to be a basketball star on the rise. While the Pacers were eliminated in the 2014 Eastern Conference Finals, many believe that the young team were in the running to compete for the NBA Championship next season.
His status is unknown as of now.
Details are forthcoming.
