James Van Der Beek has snagged a series regular role on the upcoming CBS series CSI: Cyber opposite Patricia Arquette.

Van Der Beek, who recently starred in the short-lived CBS sitcom Friends With Better Lives, will stay with the network and join the latest CSI spinoff as FBI Agent Elijah Mundo.

His character is a battlefield forensics expert who spent time in Afghanistan. The action junkie is also excellent when it comes to dealing with vehicles, bombs and other weaponry.

"We are excited to welcome an actor of James Van Der Beek's caliber to CSI: Cyber," the executive producers said in a statement. "Over his career, he has demonstrated a tremendous range of talent that makes him a perfect addition to our gifted cast."

CSI: Cyber will star Arquette as Agent Avery Ryan, who heads up the FBI's Cyber Crime Division, who looks to try and solve crimes that begin online before they can have real life repercussions. The series is inspired by real-life cyberpsychologist Mary Aiken.

Others cast so far besides Arquette and Van Der Beek include Peter MacNicol and Charley Koontz.
