Jason Statham stars in a lot of action packed, and dangerous, films. The actor nearly met his doom while filming The Expendables 3 when a stunt scene went wrong.
The British actor was driving in a truck headed towards the water. However, when he realized the brakes weren’t working, the actor put his action movie skills to the test. He jumped out of the vehicle and into the water, reported the Inquisitr.
If it weren’t for Statham’s swimming skills, he would have drowned. While Statham isn’t speaking about the incident, co-star Sylvester Stallone gave the details.
“If anyone else had been in that truck we would have been dead because we were all wearing heavy boots and gun belts,” Stallone said, “We would have drowned. But because Jason is an Olympic-quality diver he got out of it.”
Luckily Statham is accustomed to doing his own stunts and is also a great swimmer, so this was probably like practice for him. In 1990, he competed for England at the Auckland Commonwealth Games, reported the Examiner.
Statham wasn't injured in the accident, and probably won't stop doing his own stunts. In an interview with The Independent, the actor was asked about any injuries he suffered on set. The actor jokingly answered by saying he "snapped a shoelace in the very first scene."
Expendables 3 will be released in theaters on August 15.
