Actress Jessica Chastain is speaking out against the current roles being offered for women. Chastain has discussed the issue while doing press for her latest role in The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Them .
In an interview with TheWrap, Chastain discussed an issue she has with marvel and the lack of support for a movie starring Scarlett Johansson playing her character Black Widow from The Avengers. During the interview Chastain said ““Where is the Scarlett Johansson superhero movie? I don't understand it, why is it taking so long for this? You want to make money, put Scarlett Johansson in a superhero movie!,” TheWrap reports .
The actress also added that times are changing for women in film, Johansson’s latest film Lucy beat The Rock’s Hercules during its opening weekend and the movie has earned about $217 million so far.
This isn’t the first time Chastain has spoken out against the roles for women in Hollywood, in a different interview; the actress discussed that she felt women’s stories aren’t as nurtured and developed as stories for men when brought to the big screen. The Huffington Post reports .
Arguments about diversity in movies have been going on in Hollywood for a while now, with many actresses coming forward about roles for women and how they are presented in films. Actresses make it a point to say that movies with women at the center do make money at the box office and audiences are eager to see them.
