Joan Rivers has been placed into a coma after going into cardiac and respiratory arrest during surgery.
Earlier today we reported Rivers stopped breathing during a surgery to repair her vocal chords Thursday and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.
Now a source has told The New York Daily News Rivers was placed in a medically induced coma and her daughter flew to New York from her home in California to be with her mother. The source says doctors aren't sure when Rivers stopped breathing.
Rivers' aide Graham Reed did not give any details on her condition but assured reporters that Rivers was alive. “She’s not conscious, but she’s stable,” he said.
According to NY Daily News, doctors expect to bring Rivers out of the coma this weekend to assess any damage.
Mount Sinai released a statement about Rivers Thursday saying, “Her family wants to thank everybody for their outpouring of love and support...We will provide an update on her condition as it becomes available.”
A relative of Rivers said the family is worried about her condition "This is not looking good. No big medical decisions will be made until Melissa arrives," the relative said.
