Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel has been fined $12,000 by the NFL for sticking his middle finger during a game against the Washington Redskins in Monday.

Manziel stuck his middle finger up during the third quarter of the Browns and Redskins game after an incompletion, as we previously reported.

After the game Manziel said that he has to hold his composure for the entire game and he can not afford to slip even a little bit, according to ESPN.

Manziel than lost out to Brian Hoyer in the starting quarterback competition two days later, even though Manziel has played much better during the preseason.

Browns head coach Mike Pettine said that Manziel’s action’s on Monday night was one reason that Hoyer won the starting job, according to the AP.

This fine pales in comparison to past fines involving a middle finger. In 2009, former Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams was fined $250,000 after using the gesture during a celebration after beating the Buffalo Bills and in 2010; New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan was fined $50,000 for using it while at an event in Florida.
