Justin Verlander has no structural damage in his shoulder

Starting pitcher Justin Verlander was diagnosed with inflammation in his right shoulder Tuesday, however no major structural damage was found. The Detroit Tigers are lucky that Verlander should only miss one or two starts.

The Tigers’ head athletic trainer Kevin Rand called the results of Verlander’s MRI “normal wear and tear” from over his years of pitching according to MLB.com. Verlander left after one inning against the Pirates in an 11-6 loss with shoulder soreness.

"At this point, we don't expect him to go on the DL. We're still kind of evaluating what the treatment options are, but there's a possibility he may only have to miss a start and be back with us,” said manager Brad Ausmus.

Robbie Ray is a likely replacement for Verlander’s Sunday start in Detroit.

Verlander is just one of several Tigers’ pitchers that have been hit with an injury. Anibal Sanchez was placed on the disabled list with a strained right pectoral muscle. Buck Farmer, who is 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA in two starts with Double-A Erie will start in place of Sanchez according to Fox Sports.
