Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe has been suspended one game by the NFL violating the substance abuse policy.
Last November, Bowe was arrested for possession of marijuana after a traffic stop. The passenger in his car said that Bowe was unaware of the drugs and took responsibility. Bowe plead down to littering and defective equipment charges, according to ESPN.
In a statement released by the NFLPA, Bowe said that he was sorry for his lack of judgment.
“I take responsibility for my mistake, and it will not happen again. I hope that my teammates, coaches, and Chiefs fans accept my sincere apology. I will be supporting my teammates in week one, and I cannot wait to get back on the field to help us win in week two and beyond as we work towards our goal of winning the Super Bowl.”
According to USA Today, Bowe will also lose $514,705 in salary for missing the game.
Bowe will miss the Chiefs first game against the Tennessee Titans on Sept.7. He will still be able to practice and play with the Chiefs during the preseason.
