Keke Palmer has been cast to play the title role in Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella on Broadway, making her the first African-American to do so.
The show will play out at the Broadway Theatre and she takes over the role on Sept. 9, The Associated Press reports. "It's honestly one of those things that I can't believe is really happening," Palmer said.
"I'm very excited," the Just Keke talk show host added. "Very excited and nervous as well -- a bunch of feelings all at once."
According to Theatermania, in addition to being the first Black actress to take on the role on Broadway, she is also the youngest at 21 years of age.
Palmer will make her stage debut in the play, but has appeared in TV and movies, along with also releasing music. She had appeared in Showtime's Masters of Sex, Akeelah and the Bee and True Jackson, VP.
"She acts beautifully, she dances, she sings -- she's an amazing young woman," Robyn Goodman, Tony Award-winning producer, said. "I think she's going to be just so lovely."
While Palmer joins the production in September, it originally opened on March 3, 2013 at the same theater and featured a new book from Douglas Carter Beane and was nominated for Best Revival.
