After months of rumors and speculation, Kevin Love is finally leaving the Minnesota Timberwolves. He will be joining LeBron James as a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Timberwolves and Cavaliers reached an agreement on a trade Thursday that sends Love to Cleveland in exchange for Andrew Wiggins, Anthony Bennett and a 2015 first-round draft pick.
Minnesota had been looking to deal Love before the end of next season because that is when his contract expires, and he had stated his intention to sign elsewhere next summer.
He will reportedly resign with Cleveland next summer with a five-year, $120 million-plus contract, according to Yahoo Sports.
Love has averaged 19.2 points and 12.2 rebounds per game over the course of his six year career. His presence with the Cavs make them even more of a favorite to win the Eastern Conference because he will be teaming with James and Kyrie Irving.
Love, who has played in every game of his career with Minnesota, was traded to the Timberwolves the night he got drafted after being selected to the Memphis Grizzlies.
Similarly, Wiggins is being traded to the Timberwolves before he ever plays a game for the team that drafted him. He was the overall No. 1 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Bennett was the top pick in last year’s draft.
The deal will not be finalized until Aug. 23 because Wiggins is in the first month of his contract and cannot be dealt until then, report ESPN.
