The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating University of Southern California defensive back Josh Shaw in a possible domestic-abuse incident with his girlfriend last week.

Shaw sprained both of his ankles in the same weekend, and after telling USC he did it saving his seven-year old nephew he later admitted that he lied about how he injured himself.

Police were called to Shaw’s girlfriend's apartment Saturday night after a neighbor heard a woman screaming in the apartment. However, when the police arrived no one answered and when they entered the apartment, there was no one there.

The LA Times reports that Shaw’s girlfriend had an interview with police and told them there was no incident at her apartment that night.

Shaw’s attorney, Donald Etra, has not allowed Shaw to be interviewed by the police. The police are keeping their investigation open because of this.

Etra told USA Today that Shaw injured himself after falling from a balcony on Saturday. “There is no criminal aspect to this whatsoever,” he said.

Shaw has already been suspended by the team indefinitely for lying to school officials about his injuries.
