M.I.A. has finally out to bed the arbitration case brought against her by the NFL two years ago over flashing the middle finger during her performance at the Super Bowl in 2012.
The league initially demanded $16.6 million from M.I.A., real name Mathangi "Maya" Arulpragasam, which caused her to respond by taking to social media and jokingly asking Madonna for the money.
Though the league was never fined by the FCC for the middle finger during the live broadcast, the league still asked for the large sum of money, plus an apology. The NFL said the money would be donated to charity.
Well now the case has been settled, according to The Hollywood Reporter, though the terms have not been made public, but Howard King, M.I.A.'s attorney did confirm the case had been resolved.
The settlement news comes just as it has been reported that the league asked potential Super Bowl 2015 halftime acts if they would pay to play.
Those who perform during the halftime show do it for the free promotion they receive as the NFL certainly does not pay them. However, now the league is looking into finding a way to get access to the increased album sales for performers. Unsurprisingly, the response was described as exceedingly unpopular and not going to happen.
