Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch is being investigated for an alleged assault and property damage.
According to USA Today, the incident happened at a downtown apartment in Bellevue, Washington at 2:30 am PT on Sunday. The female victim alleged that Lynch was involved in the incident. The news release says that no domestic violence or sexual assault was part of the allegation. Lynch has not been arrested.
"At this point, this is only an allegation," Bellevue police spokesman Seth Tyler said. "We haven't even confirmed that he was there, so it's very early on in this investigation. Everything that we can confirm is in that news release."
Lynch is entering the third year of a $30 million deal. He missed the first week of training camp after holding out because he wanted changes to his contract. He showed up to training camp after the Seahawks added $500,000 from his 2015 salary to his salary for this year, and guaranteed $1 million in bonus incentives for this year, according to ESPN. Lynch’s base salary for this year is now $6.5 million instead of $5 million. However Lynch wanted an additional $5 million this year.
Lynch is one of the best running backs in the NFL. He rushed for 1,257 yards and 12 touchdowns last year, helping the Seahawks win the Super Bowl. It will be interesting to see what the NFL does as punishment if Lynch was involved.
