Martha Stewart’s sister, Laura Plimpton, has passed away from a brain aneurysm at the age of 59.
Plimpton died at her home in Connecticut on Tuesday, Stewart confirmed in a statement on her website.
"My youngest sister, and the youngest of the six Kostyra siblings, Laura Kostyra Plimpton, passed away today in Norwalk Hospital," she wrote. “She woke up Monday morning at 5:30 a.m., did her elliptical and treadmill, then showered and felt ill enough to call her husband, Randy, for help.”
Stewart went on say her sister had a will, which included she be kept on life support until her children could say their goodbyes. She also revealed her organs will be tested for donation.
People reports Plimpton ran Stewart’s Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, after first going to work for her when her first husband passed away.
Stewart called Plimpton an “extraordinary employee, mother, wife and sister."
Plimpton survives three children. In 2004, Plimpton gushed about her sister during an interview on CNN’S Larry King Live, noting their “special bond.”
