Actor Michael Jace, known for his work on FX’s The Shield, has waived his right to a preliminary hearing in the case of his wife’s murder.
The actor – most known for his work on FX’s The Shield, but also having small roles on Southland, as well as Boogie Nights and Forrest Gump – is accused of shooting April Jace, his 40-year old wife in their Los Angeles home on the night of May 19th, 2014. As we noted beforehand, April Jace was a financial aid counselor at Biola University, and suffered multiple gunshot wounds to her torso.
Multiple neighbors claim that they saw Jace enter the house, and heard gunshots only minutes later. Jace then called 911 multiple times, claiming he had shot his wife, but was unarmed when the police arrived. The couple’s children, however, were not harmed in any manner, despite being in the house at the time of the shooting.
As we reported , Jace plead not guilty during his arraignment, and the judge set the bond for $2 million.
The decision, as The Garden Island reports, was made on Friday in the Los Angeles Superior Court and means that Jace’s case will continue immediately to trial without any presentation of the case’s evidence to the judge.
Jason Sias, Jace’s attorney, said that the decision was made because the case is still under investigation and wants the defense to present their case at the trail.
But, as Jane Robinson, the spokesperson for the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office told the Los Angeles Times, the move also means that the defense realizes that there is enough evidence to go straight to trail.
As the Los Angeles Times notes, Jace’s next court date will be on August 15th.
