Miley Cyrus’s Sept. 13 concert in the Dominican Republic has been banned by the government commission that handles public performances.
According to the Associated Press, the commission said in a statement that the concert was banned because Cyrus “undertakes acts that go against morals and customs, which are punishable by Dominican law." However, concert tickets have been on sale since July.
In the past, the commission banned the songs of artists on the airwave, including the popular Puerto Rican Group, Calle 13. The group had 22 songs banned on the radio and television. The songs were said to “spread negative messages” to younger children, reported Caribbeans News Now.
Unlike Cyrus, Calle 13 did not have their concert banned in the country. The group took the chance and performed the songs that were censored.
The ticket prices for the Cyrus’ concert ranged from $27 to $370. The organizers for the concert did not comment on the ban. A representative for Cyrus has yet to comment.
