Miley Cyrus’ Bangerz tour special that aired on NBC last month did draw a few complaints to the FCC, but it wasn’t exactly like Janet Jackson flashing the world at the Super Bowl.
On Tuesday, TMZ did report that the FCC received a “slew” of complaints about the two-hour special, which included performances from Cyrus’ outrageous tour. The complaints focused on obscenity, especially scenes with stripper costumes and images of Cyrus in bed with half-naked women. Some were also not happy with Cyrus grinding a dancer dressed as Abraham Lincoln, especially since the special aired on the July 4th weekend.
The agency told Rolling Stone that it did receive a few complaints, but not as many as TMZ would have liked. Only four complaints reached the FCC, three of which were made public. However, that is enough to start an investigation to see if NBC did violate profanity and indecency rules for a broadcast network.
“This was jokingly rated as PG-13/TV-14 and that simply cannot be correct,” one of the complaints reads in part. “Miley Cyrus these days needs to be rated either MA or XXX, and nothing of hers should now or ever be aired during any time prior to 12:00 am in whatever time zone her smut is scheduled to air.”
We can only hope that none of these people have watched some of the more graphic episodes of Law & Order: SVU.
