German forward Miroslav Klose has decided to retire from international soccer matches.

Klose will retire as the all-time leader in World Cup goals and with international goals for Germany with 16 and 71, respectively, according to FIFA.com.

In a statement released by the German National Team, Klose said that winning the World Cup was a lifelong dream of his.

“I has a unique and wonderful time with the national team and enjoyed many unforgettable moments,” he said. “I’ve used the past few weeks to let all those moments sink in once more and to savour them. I cannot think of a better time to bring the international chapter of my career to a close.”

According to the Daily Mail, Klose played for the German’s for 14 years and played in four World Cups for the team.

German coach Joachim Low said of Klose, “Miro Klose in an international star. He is one of the greatest strikers there have been.”

Klose is the second German team member to retire following the World Cup. Philipp Lahm, the former captain, retired in mid July.
