The Montreal Canadiens agreed to terms on an eight-year $72 million contract extension with defenseman P.K. Subban Saturday that will last until the 2021-22 season. The extension comes just hours before the two partiers were about to meet in an arbitration hearing.
Subban, 25, had 53 points, seven goals and 43 assists, last season with the Canadiens. He was the only player for Montreal to play in all 82 games of the regular season according to NHL.com.
“We are very pleased to have reached a long term agreement with P.K. Subban. This agreement helps consolidate the future of our team. A key element of our group of young veterans, P.K. plays with a high level of intensity every time he steps onto the ice,” said Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin.
Subban led Montreal in assists, powerplay points and powperplay assists. Subban also led the Canadiens with 14 points in 17 playoff games last season. Over the past two seasons, Subban has finished second in team scoring according to SB Nation.
Subban has earned his money the hard way, and now Montreal has locked him up for the prime of his career.
