Marco Polo, the new drama series from Netflix and The Weinstein Company, will debut on Dec. 12, the streaming service said on Wednesday.
The series stars Italian actor Lorenzo Richelmy as Polo and will trace his journey to 13th Century China. Other members of the international cast include Benedict Wong, Zhu Zhu, Tom Wu, Remy Hii and Rick Yune. This will be Richelmy’s first role outside of Italy.
Marco Polo had a rough history before finally landing somewhere. Back in January 2012, Starz actually picked it up, but ultimately passed and decided to go with Black Sails instead. However, The Weinstein Company was undeterred and shopped it to Netflix, who greenlit the series in January. The series was created by John Fusco.
Netflix also released a few stills, which you can check out over at Entertainment Weekly.
Netflix will distribute the series worldwide and the first season runs 10 episodes.
