New York Giants guard Eric Herman has been suspended for the first four games of the NFL season without pay for violating the NFL’s policy on performance enhancing drugs.
Herman told Giants.com that the NFL allows certain medication’s under a therapeutic use exemption, which he has for one medication, but not for another one he was caught with.
“Unfortunately, a stimulate for which I don’t have a TUE was in my body, and the rules are very strict, so I am taking responsibility and I sincerely apologize to my teammates, coaches and the club,” he said. “This won’t happen again, and I will spend the four weeks working hard to be ready to return to work.
Herman can still practice with the team and play in the remaining preseason games with the Giants. However, once the regular season starts he will not be apart of the Giants active roster until Sept. 26, the day after their week four games against the Washington Redskins, according to ESPN.
Herman was a seventh round pick by the Giants in 2013. Last season, he spent the first 16 weeks on the team’s practice squad before being signed to the active roster on December 25. He did not play in any games last season, according to the Giants.
