Two new faces will join Carmelo Anthony in New York; young Quiny Acy and journeyman Travis Outlaw will be heading to the Knicks in exchange for Wayne Ellington and Jeremy Tyler.

Acy hasn’t had much opportunity to prove himself on the court after the Toronto Raptors drafted him with the 37th pick in the 2nd round of the 2012 draft, averaging 3.1 points per game in just under 13 minutes per game since then for both Toronto and Sacramento, according to ESPN.com. Outlaw brings to the Knicks his 8.5 points per game career average, numbers that he fashioned with a multitude of teams, including the Portland Trailblazers, the now Brooklyn Nets, and the L.A. Clippers, in addition to Sacramento.
Ellington is a sharpshooter who has also bounced around, playing for no less than 5 teams so far during his career. He didn’t last too long in New York, as he was acquired via another trade last month that sent Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton to the Dallas Mavericks. Tyler has also had trouble acquiring playing time, averaging 3.6 points in just a shade under 10 minutes per game for three teams since 2011, per stats from USAToday.com.
Acy and Outlaw join Jose Calderon, Shane Larkin, and Samuel Dalembert as the team’s new additions. Calderon is expected to start at point guard, his main job being to create open looks for Anthony. Larkin and Dalembert will take up reserve roles, with the former potentially taking over eventually for Calderon, and the latter providing a lengthy defensive presence in the middle. Outlaw should provide some scoring punch off of the bench, and Acy should continue to develop alongside Larkin.
I’m not sure this trade will necessarily please Anthony, but the mere fact that the Knicks are active and out there making moves should, in the midst of his decision to stick it out with the team. No one is guaranteeing that the Knicks will be better, but there is no denying that they are certainly trying.
