Northwestern has suspended running back Venric Mark for violating team policy for the first two games of the season.

According to Northwestern, Mark will be suspended for the Aug. 30 game against California and the Sept. 6 game against Northern Illinois.

Mark was granted a fifth year medical hardship waiver by the Big Ten after breaking his ankle early last season. During his junior season, Mark rushed for 1,366 yards and 12 touchdowns, according to the AP.

Mark said in a statement released by Northwestern that he was sorry and he will accept any consequences.

“First and foremost, I feel like I let my teammates down, and that feels worst. I’m grateful to have another season to compete with this team,” he said. “My focus moving forward is on working as hard as I can in camp and supporting my teammates in practice and on game days so that we can achieve our goals this season.”

Mark is fourth on Northwestern’s all-time all-purpose yard list with 4,271 yards.
