University of Oklahoma president David L. Boren announced that linebacker Frank Shannon was issued a one-year suspension on Monday due to an alleged sexual assault.

Boren said in a statement, "The University is currently seeking to enforce its decision so that it may be in compliance with federal law requiring responses by institutions to such matters in a timely manner. With the fall semester beginning August 18, time is of the essence."

Shannon is alleged to have sexually assaulted a female student at his apartment in January. According to a Title IX sexual misconduct allegation report Shannon has been accused of attempting to forcibly have sex with a female OU student in his bedroom according to The Oklahoman. Under Title IX incidents of this nature must be reported to the university and they mist respond.

Shannon was not charged by the Cleveland County District Attorney after the alleged victim decided not to prosecute according to Yahoo Sports.

The OU student conduct office met with Shannon and determined his one-year suspension for violating the university’s “Sexual Misconduct, Discrimination and Harassment Policy.”

Shannon led the Sooner with 92 tackles last season along with two sacks and an interception.
