Oscar winner Robin Williams passed away at the age of 63 of what is being suspected as a suicide on Monday morning.

The iconic comedian's publicist released a statement, Entertainment Weekly reports, noting "Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marin County, California police released a statement saying that just before noon someone called 911 to say that Williams was discovered unconscious and not breathing at his Tiburon, California home.

When emergency personnel arrived at the location, the actor was pronounced dead at 12:02 p.m. Police are currently investigating the cause of death, but strongly believe that it was death by suicide through asphyxia.

A forensic examination of Williams' body has been schedule for Aug. 12, along with a toxicology report.

Back in early July, the Good Will Hunting actor returned to rehab as he wanted to maintain his sobriety. He was set to stay at the Hazelden Addiction Treatment Center in Minnesota for a few weeks as he looked to remain committed to his sobriety.

The actor was set to reprise his role as Mrs. Doubtfire in a Christopher Columbus directed sequel. He recently starred in the CBS series The Crazy Ones, which ran for a season before being cancelled.
