Green Bay Packers defensive end Jerel Worthy has been traded to the New England Patriots. The trade was announced Tuesday evening.
The deal is pending Worthy passing his physical. Worthy hasn’t participated in training camp because of a lower back injury. He was placed on the non-football injury list when he didn’t pass his physical when training camp started. The Packers will get a future Patriots draft pick as part of the trade, but only if Worthy makes the team, according to ESPN.
"I'm just waiting for the green light," Worthy said. "I feel really great. I've done everything that I can possibly do with the training staff and with the strength and conditioning guys. They've done a great job of prepping me for this moment. At the end of the day, it's just a day-to-day thing. I said it last week, that I'm just waiting for my moment."
Worthy was the 51st pick in the 2012 draft and was drafted by the Packers. He had two and a half sacks and 23 tackles in 14 games in his rookie season, according to the Associated Press. He tore his ACL in the regular-season finale of the 2012 season. Last year he spent the first part of the year on the physically unable to perform list. He played the final three games, including the playoffs, and finished the season with just one tackle.
Worthy’s agent Chafie Fields tweeted, ''Will help Pats D-line right away.'' He will have to pass his physical and stay healthy if that is to happen. Three of the eight players that the Packers drafted in 2012, Nick Perry, Casey Hayward, and Mike Daniels are still on the Packers roster.
