Emmy-winning actor Peter MacNicol has been tapped to star opposite Patricia Arquette in the upcoming CSI spinoff CSI: Cyber.

MacNicol will play Assistant Director Stavros Sifter, who is described as a ladder-climber who has situated himself as the man to go to when working with the FBI Cyber division, Deadline reports. He is also the supervisor of Special Agent Avery Ryan, played by Arquette (right).

MacNicol won an Emmy award for his time on the hit series Ally McBeal.

As previously reported, CBS gave the spinoff series a season order after introducing the lead character through a backdoor pilot on CSI. Casting continues for the series, with only Arquette, MacNicol and Charley Koontz cast.

The series will follow Agent Ryan, who is inspired by cyberpsychologist Mary Aiken, who leads the FBI's Cyber Crime Division where they attempt to find and stop crimes before criminals have a chance to enact them in the real world.
