Ed Nelson, the star of the 1960s soap opera Peyton Place passed away at the age of 85 last Saturday in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Asta Hanson, Nelson's daughter-in-law, was willing to confirm the actor's death, but did not say what the cause was, according to The Washington Post.

Dorothy Malone, Mia Farrow and Ryan O'Neal starred in Peyton Place, which ran from 1964 until 1969. Nelson played Dr. Michael Rossi through the show's run. He would also join some of the cast for the 1985 reunion TV movie Peyton Place: The Next Generation.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Nelson also would appear in the movie spinoff Murder in Peyton Place. He also appeared in many other television series as well as film.

He would go on to appear in the Jackie Chan film Who Am I? and in Give 'em Hell, Harry!, Nelson played President Harry S. Truman.
Other TV series he made appearances in include Rawhide, Gunsmoke, Murder, She Wrote and he also hosted the talk show The Ed Nelson Show. He last appeared in the 2003 film Runaway Jury.

Nelson is survived by his wife Patsy, along with six children, 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
