St. Louis Rams running back Isaiah Pead will likely miss this season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
The injury occurred during Saturday’s preseason game against the Green Bay Packers. Pead was returning a kickoff after a Packers touchdown in the first quarter. His foot got caught in the turf when he made a jump –cut during the return, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. There was no contact on the play and Pead was carted off the field to the Rams locker room.
“It’s very tough for him,” Rams coach Jeff Fisher said. “He was fighting back — he had surgery on his finger. We pinned it. He was excited about getting an opportunity (vs. Green Bay). It’s unfortunate that that happened. So we’ll just hope for the best as far as that’s concerned.”
Pead, the 50th overall pick in the 2012 draft, was about to enter his third year in the NFL. He has played for the Rams in each of his two years in the league. In those two seasons Pead has17 carries for 75 yards, 14 receptions, and 15 kick returns, according to NFL.com.
Pead was fourth in the Rams depth chart for running backs, CBS Sports notes. He was behind Zac Stacy, Benny Cunningham, and Tre Mason in the depth charts. However he was expected to make the team because he can play on special teams.
