John Lackey has been traded from the Boston Rex Sox to the St. Louis Cardinals for Allen Craig and Joe Kelly.

This is not the only move Boston has made with the trade deadline in mind. Last week the Red Sox traded Jake Peavy to the San Francisco Giants, according to ESPN.

These moves have been a result of the down season the team has had in 2014. After winning the World Series in 2013, the Red Sox are now trying to rebuild to contend in the future. It is a drastic change from success to failure.

Boston’s record so far is 48 wins and 60 losses. They are 12.5 games out of first place in the American League Eastern Division. With the way they have been playing this year, it was time to shake things up.

Lackey was a player that was worthy of trading because teams would be interested in him. The Cardinals took advantage of the opportunity to acquire Lackey. In 2014, he has 11 wins and seven losses with a 3.60 ERA, proven by MLB.com.
