The NFL is reportedly trying something new this year – asking musical acts to actually pay to perform during the coveted halftime show slot.
It’s rumored that Rihanna, Katy Perry and the Chris Martin-fronted Coldplay are all being considered as performers for 2015.
Sources told Wall Street Journal that upon notifying these artists that they’re being considered, they were also asked if they are willing to pay if chosen. Artists have a history of getting a bump in album sales the week following their performance.
Joanna Hunter, spokesperson for the National Football League, declined to comment on these rumors and would only say they wanted to "put on the best possible show."
Hunter also confirmed the musical act that would be hitting the stag during halftime in Glendale, Ariz. next year hasn’t been decided yet.
Fox News notes Bruno Mars and The Red Hot Chili Peppers performed during last year’s game at Metlife Stadium in New Jersy, which saw the Seattle Seahawks defeat the Denver Broncos.
In a twist, fans recently started a petition to get Weird Al Yankovic to perform this year.
