Iron Man himself has come out and admitted that James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy is the current best film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In a recent interview with the Toronto Sun, Robert Downey Jr. confessed he believes the most recent Marvel film is the best one yet.

"Galaxy in some ways is the best Marvel movie ever," RDJ said. "And it's odd for someone with -- on occasion -- an ego the size of mine to actually say that!"

Of course the star of several Marvel films noted that GOTG was helped along by the previous films in the MCU, which he notes allowed for the "upstart" film to have a chance.

"It's like you have a great quarterback, and his brother plays for another team, and then you say, 'Look, this is their second cousin and we think he has a great arm and he should start," Downey explained. "And then he goes and wins the Superbowl!"

RDJ was in Toronto this week to promote his upcoming non-Marvel film, The Judge, Entertainment Weekly reports. While there he did hint at the possibility of returning as Sherlock Holmes for a third film.

Downey will return next summer as Tony Stark/Iron Man for the second Avengers film, Avengers: Age of Ultron.

GOTG's success might have caught everyone by surprise, but the film has continued to do well at the box office and took the top spot in its fourth week thanks to weak new releases, but also was set to become the highest grossing film of the summer domestically, edging out Transformers: Day of Extinction.
