Racecar driver Ryan Truex will miss the Pure Michigan 400 after he sustained a concussion following a crash during practice for the race.

According to BK Racing, Truex was involved in the crash on Saturday and he was taken to a hospital for CT scans, that all came back negative.

Truex will have to follow the guidelines set by NASCAR and he will not be able to race again until a neurologist has cleared him, according to USA Today.

He will become the first driver to miss a Sprint Cup race since Dale Earnhardt Jr. in 2012. During that year, Earnhardt became concussed twice in a six week period, but he only reported one of them. This led NASCAR to look at its concussion rules.

Every driver took a baseline neurological test during the preseason. If a driver becomes concussed during the season, he can take it again to see if he is healthy again.

According to NBC Sports, JJ Yeley will driver Truex’s car during the race.

This is Truex’s first season in the Sprint cup and he has made 19 starts. He is the younger brother of driver Martin Truex Jr.
