The Sacramento Kings have signed 7’5” center Sim Bhullar to a training camp contact. He will also become the first player of Indian descent to sign a NBA contract.
Bhullar is from Canada and played at New Mexico State for two seasons, according to the AP. In his two years, he average 10.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game.
He led New Mexico State to two NCAA tournaments and won his conferences tournament MVP honors each year, according to the National Post.
The Kings are owned by Vivek Ranadive. He became the first Indian-born owner when he bought the team in 2013. He thinks India has great untapped potential for the NBA.
“While Sim is the first player of Indian descent to sign with an NBA franchise, he represents one of many that will emerge from that region as the game continues to garner more attention and generate ever-increasing passion among a new generation of Indian fans.”
Bhullar went on drafted during the NBA draft. He played for the Kings summer league team that won the title in Las Vegas. He could be sent to the Kings developmental affiliate if he does not make the team.
