It has been reported that the San Diego Padres have agreed to hire A.J. Preller as the new general manager for the organization. Sources who are close to the situation say Preller’s deal is a five-year contract.
He has been working as an assistant general manager for the Texas Rangers. He was involved with the Rangers for 10 years.
Not only does he have experience with the Rangers organization, he has been a baseball scout overseas. He is known for being a Latin American scout.
San Diego was looking for a general manager who fit Preller’s skill set. They were looking for a person who had great scouting in the international market. Preller fit the bill so now he has the opportunity to help the Padres achieve success in the future.
According to ESPN, Billy Eppler was another name that was in consideration for the Padres general manger position.
