Cain was diagnosed with bone chips in his elbow last week giving him the difficult choice of pitching through the pain or having surgery. Luckily for Cain he will not require a 2015 season-ending Tommy John surgery, just a surgery to clean his elbow. The recovery time for the surgery is three months, meaning Cain will be ready for spring training according to Yahoo.
Cain, who hasn’t pitched since July 9, recorded a 4.18 ERA with a 2-7 record in 2014. This season was Cain’s worst as a Giant.
The Giants traded for starting pitcher Jake Peavy on July 26, to take Cain’s spot in the rotation. However, in the Peavy’s last 17 starts he has gone 0-11 with a 5.28 ERA. Peavy has allowed seven earned runs on 10 huts in his 13 innings with San Francisco.
The Giants sit two games behind the NL West leading Los Angeles Dodgers.
