The 2014 Teen Choice Awards were last night and Selena Gomez made sure to thank the people who have helped make her dreams come true - the fans. The singer and actress was the newest recipient of the Ultimate Choice Award. She didn’t get a car though, just a giant surfboard she will need to find some room for.
Gomez, who appeared in spring Breakers and released the album Stars Dance last year, was the youngest winner of the award, notes E! News. She may be only 22, but she has already made a significant impact on showbusiness.
“Thank you so much! I have to be honest - especially this month - I cannot thank you guys enough,” Gomez told her fans. “You remind me, amidst all the stuff that we deal with personally, what's important, and that's giving and loving and caring about each other.”
Gomez said that she doesn’t mean to sound preachy, but “It's just that you guys make me better, and I just really appreciate everything that you've done.”
The “Come and Get It” singer also thanked her mother, Mandy Teefey, for being there to support her.
According to the Associated Press, The Fault in Our Stars was also a big winner, as both Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort took home their own surfboards. However, Woodley actually won for her role in the sci-fi movie Divergent.
“I don't surf or anything, so I guess I'm gonna put this on my wall,” Elgort joked.
Demi Lovato opened the show with “Really Don't Care” and also won an award herself.
The 16th annual ceremony was hosted by Teen Wolf’s Tyler Posey and Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland.
